Health and Safety Policy
BMSL consider that the prevention of incidents which may result in injury or
damage to equipment is essential to both the well being of its operatives and
the efficiency of its operation.
BMSL is totally committed to safety and accepts it is one of the management's
responsibilities.
It is recognised that in all contracts and projects overall authority and control
of safety rests with the client's senior representative on site. However, it is
the responsiblity of all operatives hired to clients by BMSL to ensure that all
reasonable practical steps are taken to create a safe working environment for
all workers.
The client is required under the Management of Health & Safety at Work
Regulations 1993 to provide comprehensive information to all his employees
including temporary operatives hired, regarding the risks identified by his
assessment, the preventative and protective measures, the procedures to be
followed in the event of danger and the identity of those persons nominated by
him to implement procedures.
All operatives hired to clients by BMSL have an obligation to co-operate with
client management to fulfil the Health & Safety policy and to act in a
responsible manner to reduce the risk of injury to themselves or the fellow
workers. They must inform client management and/or their representatives of any
work situation which represents future and immediate danger to health and safety
and of any matter which is considered to be a short coming in the clients
protection arrangements for Health & Safety. It is understood, once established
on site, breaches of client's safety procedures could constitute a dismissal
offence.
The Directors of BMSL are aware that there are different requirements in Health &
Safety Law regarding the employment of young persons. BMSL will therefore ensure
these requirements are met before the arrival of the young on site, where a
detailed risk assessment for each task they will undertake will be carried out.
These risk assessments will take into account the lack of awareness, the
immaturity and the lack of experience of the young person. Young persons will
at all times be supervised by a competent person and will not be allowed to
exceed a 40 hour working week.
The Managing Director of BMSL is responsible for the overall implementation of
the company Health and Safety Policy and it will be subject to continual review.
